Unworked copper is soft but becomes stiffer when processed. This means that worked copper, like that found in tube terminals, will spring back to its original shape if compressed around a cable. You can soften worked copper again through annealing—a process where the copper is heated to 400°C and then cooled.
To ensure that our tube terminals do not spring back, they are annealed twice (hence the name double annealing). This makes them soft and easy to crimp. It also means they only harden after the terminal is crimped onto the cable. As a result, the crimp retains its contact pressure throughout the entire life of the cable.
